Stop Laying Out Books by Hand. Start Composing Them Automatically.
Mediawide turns manual book layout into an automated production line. Define a publisher’s typesetting rules once, then compose finished, print-ready pages straight from your InDesign templates and content – fitted to an exact page count, on-brand, and consistent across every title.
No page-by-page tweaking. No missed deadlines. No rebuilding the same book design over and over. Just print-ready pages, whenever you need them.
Why Choose the Mediawide Publishing Platform?
Publishing demands efficiency and precision. Relying on manual, page-by-page layout leads to overspending, missed deadlines, and inconsistent results across a list. The Mediawide Publishing Platform solves these challenges by combining a rules-based Book Spec engine with Adobe InDesign Server automation – so your team defines the standard once, and every title that follows meets it automatically.
- Rules Defined Once, Applied Everywhere – Set your house rules once in the Mediawide Book Spec, then reuse them across every title, series, or imprint. No re-briefing designers, title after title.
- Fit Text to an Exact Page Count – Lock in a target page extent so every title lands on a fixed number of pages – for predictable signatures and tighter, more cost-efficient print runs.
- Automatic Widow, Orphan & Runt Fixing – Decide how widows, orphans, and runts are caught and corrected, and apply those rules consistently, without a designer checking every spread by hand.
- Powered by Adobe InDesign Server – The plug-ins drive Adobe InDesign Server – the same professional engine as desktop InDesign, running headless and programmatically, so output quality never drops for the sake of automation.
- Time-Saving Automation – Meet tight production deadlines without expanding headcount. What used to take page-by-page manual intervention now runs as an automated job.
How It Works
Define Your Spec
Set your house rules once in the Mediawide Book Spec. Decide how widows, orphans, and runts are caught and corrected, map each paragraph style to the right master page, and list the paragraphs to exclude from global fitting. Lock in the target page extent so every title is laid out to a fixed number of pages. Specs export to JSON, so the same rules can be reused, duplicated, and migrated across imprints and environments.
Compose & Fit
Turn templates and content into real pages automatically. The InDesign plug-ins drive Adobe InDesign Server, pulling in your templates, data feeds, and assets. Your fitting rules are applied as part of the layout, adjusting text to hit the exact page count while preserving full InDesign typographic quality – no manual, page-by-page intervention required.
Render & Deliver
Produce print-ready pages at scale. Run multiple InDesign Server instances in parallel to push high volumes of titles through to finished, on-spec output. Submit and track jobs centrally through the Mediawide Rendering Manager, with per-job status, history, and detailed error reporting for support and operations teams โ so the same standard of quality applies across the entire list.
